How do I calculate my GPA?
Multiply each course’s grade points by its credits to get quality points. Sum all quality points and divide by total credits.
Formula: GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credits) ÷ Total Credits
Example: A (4.0) × 3 credits = 12.0, B+ (3.3) × 4 credits = 13.2. GPA = 25.2 ÷ 7 = 3.60
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted: Uses a 4.0 scale for all courses — an A is always 4.0 regardless of difficulty.
Weighted: Adds bonus points for advanced courses. Typically: +0.5 for Honors, +1.0 for AP and IB. Maximum = 5.0.
Does pass/fail affect my GPA?
At most schools, P/F grades are excluded from GPA. However, CASPA (PA school) converts P → C (2.0) and NP → F (0.0).
How do I raise my GPA?
Earn grades above your current average. The impact depends on how many credits you’ve completed vs. how many remain. More remaining credits = easier to move GPA.
What GPA do I need for college admissions?
Varies widely by school. General ranges (unweighted): Ivy/Top 20: 3.9+, Selective: 3.5–3.9, Moderately selective: 3.0–3.5, Open enrollment: 2.0+.
Is my data safe? Do you collect my grades?
We never collect your data. All calculations run in your browser using JavaScript. Grades are stored in local storage only — they never leave your device. No accounts, no server-side processing.
Does retaking a class replace the old grade?
At most schools, yes (grade replacement). But LSAC, AMCAS, and CASPA count all attempts.
What is a quality point?
Quality Points = Grade Points × Credits for a single course. Your GPA = Total QP ÷ Total Credits.
